Relatives of a Maine woman whose toddler is missing say they feared for the girl's safety while she was staying with her father.

Twenty-month-old Ayla Reynolds has been missing since father Justin DiPietro called police Saturday to report she was not in her bed.

Her mother's stepsister Whitney Raynor said Monday that the child had bruises after being in her father's care.

Raynor says child welfare agents placed Ayla with her father in November while her mother was in rehab for substance abuse.

Mother Trista Reynolds told ABC on Monday she has been seeking sole custody.

A phone number for the father couldn't immediately be located. Police outside his house Monday said he was not there.

Police say the girl's disappearance is still classified as a missing-persons case.
