ANTIGO, Wis. (AP) — A person toting a rifle opened fire outside a high school prom, leaving three people injured, Wisconsin police said.
The shooter "showed up" Saturday night at Antigo High School and started firing at two people outside the building, Antigo Police Chief Eric Roller said in a statement Sunday.
"Officers were in the parking lot patrolling the activities and heard the shots and an officer immediately fired upon the shooter, stopping the threat," Roller said.
He said everyone within the prom was eventually escorted from the school and were safe.
It was not immediately known if the unidentified suspect was among the injured at the hospital, or if they were a student. Roller said the shooter was in custody and there was no further threat to the community.
The condition of the three people injured was not immediately known, but Roller says all three were taken to the hospital.
A message seeking further information was left Sunday by The Associated Press with the Antigo Police Department.
