Kyle Busch's final Instagram post wasn't about racing stats or trophies— it was about his son turning 11, People reports. Days before the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion died Thursday at 41 after what his family called a "severe illness," Busch shared a birthday tribute to his eldest child, Brexton, calling him "the best kid on & off the track" and telling him, "there is no limit to what you'll accomplish."
The post showed the family of four—Busch, wife Samantha, 39, Brexton, and 4-year-old daughter Lennix—on a racetrack for a race car-themed party, with Brexton holding a trophy and his little sister gripping a checkered flag. Samantha marked the milestone with her own message, writing that watching Brexton grow into a "driven, funny, kind-hearted little man" has been "the greatest gift." Earlier this month, Busch had also celebrated Lennix's fourth birthday and Mother's Day in a joint post praising "my girls."
NASCAR, Richard Childress Racing, and the Busch family announced his death Thursday, without disclosing details, but his death came just hours after his family announced he was ill. TMZ reports many in the NASCAR world were expressing shock at the loss, with Clint Bowyer revealing he'd spoken to Busch just days prior. Busch had competed just four days before his death, though TMZ notes that in a May 10 race, he had radioed for medical aid. He had apparently been fighting a sinus infection, Yahoo Sports reports, but was able to finish the race. He had been scheduled to race again this weekend.
