The skateboarding dude who saved a Koran from being torched in a Texas park is getting the kind of modest honor a true stoner folk hero apparently dreams of: acclaim in High Times. The doobie bible thanks Jacob Isom for his "bravery in the face of intolerance," and has promised him a story in an upcoming issue. The magazine contacted Isom after reading about his desire to be written up in his fave rag in Gawker. Isom became a YouTube darling for telling an extremist Christian minister about to torch the Muslim holy book: "Dude, you have no Koran."
The 23-year-old Amarillo resident works at a pizzeria and plans to auction the skateboard he had with him during his heroic feat so that "maybe I can buy a new skateboard." If people have issues with his modest job, "they should know I enjoy cooking pizza more than they enjoy their office jobs," he told Gawker. As for the controversial near-torching of the Koran, Isom explains: "They rant and rave with a bullhorn, and pass judgment. That's not what Jesus would do." See an earlier interview with Isom here.
