Times Square Bomber Planned a Second Attack

Prosecutors are throwing the kitchen sink at Faisal Shahzad, in an effort to get the would-be Times Square bomber put away for life. In a legal brief released today, feds allege that Shahzad had planned to launch a second attack after hitting Times Square. The failed terrorist also told authorities that he’d expected the bomb to kill 40, and that he’d wanted it to detonate during peak pedestrian hours, since people in cars would be harder to kill, the New York Post reports.

Prosecutors also submitted a video in which FBI agents detonated a bomb they said was similar to the one Shahzad had tried to build, setting up other cars and dummies around it to demonstrate its effectiveness. Shahzad has already pleaded guilty to planning the bombing, but prosecutors are trying to ensure he gets life in prison, saying that his “lasting pride in his actions” leaves “no potential for rehabilitation.
