If you live in the contiguous 48 states, you’re never more than 115 miles away from a Big Mac. That handy tidbit comes to you via DataPointed.net, which used GPS to determine the spot (in Nevada) that is farthest from a McDonald’s—aka “The McFarthest Spot.” The spot used to be in South Dakota, but the closure of a McDonald’s caused the honor to shift to Nevada—meaning it was now close enough for DataPointed.net’s Stephen Von Worley to visit.
He details his journey on the site, including his huge order at the last McDonald’s he would pass on his way to the spot (the cashier asks if he wants the $31.50, 5,000-calorie order in a box). The drive goes from asphalt to packed gravel then to a “jeep trail,” so he camps as close as possible, mountain bikes to within 200 feet, and walks the rest of the way (see video in the gallery). What did he do when he got there? Ate some of the McDonald’s food he’d brought along, of course.
