The guy who claims the rent is too high (too DAMN high, sorry) in New York doesn't actually pay rent himself, reports the New York Times. Jimmy McMillan is running on the "Rent is Too Damn High" platform, despite not having paid rent himself for at least a decade. He says his $800-a month apartment in Brooklyn is provided to him by his landlord in exchange for maintenance work.
McMillan says his personal rent situation has nothing to do with his platform. “Even though my rent is not too damn high, if I’m fighting for the children who can’t pay rent, who have no place to live, then my rent is too damn high.” Asked about a conflicting report in which he claimed to pay the $800 a month, he added: “Don’t look for anything I say about my living space to be true."
