Carine Roitfeld, editor in chief of French Vogue for 10 years, will step down at the end of next month. “I think it’s time to do something different,” she tells the New York Times. The influential fashion editor says she has no problems with the organization, but wanted to pursue other projects. What other projects isn’t clear: “I have no plan at all,” she says.

The move comes as a surprise—especially considering Roitfeld was long considered to be Anna Wintour’s eventual replacement at Vogue, Gawker notes. Click for Twitter reactions to Roitfeld's resignation.
