Newly discovered documents reveal a bizarre footnote in the annals of Nazi history, detailing how German authorities became enraged by a dog in Finland who mocked the führer. Pharmaceutical wholesaler Tor Borg's mutt had the odd habit of raising its paw with a striking likeness to the Nazi salute in response to his name, which, because of Borg's Nazi-hating wife, was Hitler, reports the AP.

German diplomats and their Finnish cronies were instructed by the Berlin foreign office to gather information on Borg and his seditious pup. A German chemical company even offered to put Borg's company out of business. Three different government ministries were involved in the investigation, though no charges were ultimately filed. It's "completely bizarre," says one historian. "Just months before the Nazis launched their attack on the Soviet Union, they had nothing better to do than to obsess about this dog."
