Seven young men were killed when gunmen traveling in three vehicles opened fire on a soccer game in Ciudad Juarez. At least one player was among the dead. Police say they haven't determined a motive for the shooting, which took place at a park opened last year as part of a program to decrease drug violence in the border city, CNN reports.
Ciudad Juarez is, by some measures, the most violent city in the Western Hemisphere or even the world and a university researcher in the city predicts that it will see 5,000 murders this year unless there are radical changes, the Los Angeles Times reports. The same artificial-intelligence model predicted that there would be 3,000 murders in Ciudad Juarez in 2010. The final figure was 3,111.
