As if the current police photo of Jared Lee Loughner weren't creepy enough: It turns out there's a different one yet to be released, and his lawyers are fighting to keep it that way, reports Politics Daily. The one now in wide circulation was taken and distributed by the Pima County Sheriff's Office after Loughner's arrest, but it's not the official booking photo. That was taken by federal marshals and remains under wraps. A hearing on whether it should be made public is scheduled for Friday.
Loughner's attorneys argue that its release would bring a flurry of coverage just as attention in the Gabrielle Giffords shooting is waning, and thus make it harder for him to get a fair trial. It could signal a new strategy that his legal team is going to more aggressively guard his public portrayal, writes Andrew Cohen. Click for more. (More Jared Lee Loughner stories.)
