Super freshman Eric Gordon scored 33 points in his debut for Indiana, but the Hoosiers struggled to put away pesky Chattanooga. Although the final was 99-79 Indiana trailed 50-46 at the half. Gordon, who had seven 3-pointers and shot 9-of-15 from the floor, led the second half charge. Kevin Bridgewaters had 14 points in the losing effort, according to the AP. In other action:

  • No. 16 Texas clearly missed last season’s player of the year, Kevin Durant, in their opening win, struggling to score before beating Texas-San Antonio 58-37. D.J. Augustin led the Longhorns with 19 points.
  • Syracuse’s freshman point guard scored 28 for the Orange in a 97-89 win over Siena, and advanced to the second round of the Preseason NIT.
