Accused Irish mob boss Whitey Bulger pled not guilty to a 32-count federal indictment alleging he participated in 19 murders. At a district court in Plymouth County, he proclaimed his innocence in a "clear" and "soft" voice that was barely above a whisper, reports the Boston Globe. His two brothers were in attendance for the 15-minute hearing, and Bulger isn't scheduled back in court until Sept. 14.
“I see absolute no evidence that my client suffers from Alzheimer’s," his attorney said afterward, responding to reports that former neighbors thought Bulger to be senile. "I have found Mr. Bulger to be very smart ... [and] to have an excellent memory." (More Whitey Bulger stories.)
