Video game reviews don’t get much more enthusiastic than this. Seth Schiesel of the New York Times is over the moon about Shadow Cities, a new iPhone game that lets you battle for control of your real-life physical location. “Shadow Cities isn’t just the future of mobile gaming,” he gushes. “It may actually be the most interesting, innovative, provocative, and far-reaching video game in the world right now, on any system.”

Log into Shadow Cities and you’ll see a GPS-generated map of your location—which also shows “gateways” for you to control (meaning nearby landmarks), as well as nearby players, who might be either allies or enemies. If things are sleepy in your hometown, don’t worry, you can respond to distress calls from allies all over the world. This new take on truly mobile gaming “feels almost impossibly exciting and new,” Schiesel says. “I just feel lucky to have discovered it.” (More video game reviews stories.)
