A Northern Ireland man escaped jail but is out about $800 for making a death threat against a politician on Facebook. Darryl O'Donnell, a 31-year-old chef, posted that a particular member of parliament "should get a bullet in the head." The judge sentenced him to the fine and 5 months in prison but said he would suspend the jail term because O'Donnell had just landed a job, reports the BBC.

"Just as it is wrong to make such menacing comments against an individual using traditional communication tools it is equally wrong to make the comments through new media," says the subject of the threat, MP Gregory Campbell. (More Facebook stories.)
