A 16-year-old Los Angeles high school cheerleader died after mysteriously collapsing at a weekend football game. The team "had just tied the game up, and the cheerleaders were pumped up,” said a witness. Sophomore Angela Gettis appeared “to just pass out. All of her friends were in a circle crying.” Bystanders administered CPR awaiting paramedics as stunned fans watched, but Gettis was declared dead just hours later. She apparently succumbed to cardiac arrest, but her family said she had no health problems. An autopsy is planned.
"It's devastating. It's tragic," said Washington High School principal Todd Ullah. Gettis was an honor student, and a school leader, who planned a career in forensic science, he said. “I just want people to remember the heart she had. She was very kind,” her aunt told KABC-TV.
