Sure, she’s still “Jenny From the Block"—unless of course you actually want Jennifer Lopez to drive around said block. It turns out J.Lo did not actually visit the Bronx neighborhood featured in her new Fiat commercial. Rather, a body double drove the car through her gritty old neighborhood, while Lopez herself filmed her parts on an LA soundstage. The Smoking Gun notes that outlets including the Wall Street Journal were fooled by the editing trick.
The press release for the spot even claims that Lopez is “driving a Fiat 500 Cabrio as she travels through the streets of Manhattan to the Bronx where she grew up.” And apparently J.Lo is a better actor than we all thought, because she was able to say the lines, "Here? This is my world" and “This place inspires me” with a straight face. Even better: TSG adds that while the lookalike was filming in the Bronx, the Fiat broke down in the middle of the street.
