The iMac’s latest challenger is coming from an unlikely source: Dell. The maker " long associated with boxy, boring machines" brings the buzz with its newest contender, the XPS One, raves the Wall Street Journal’s Walt Mossberg. The sleek desktop machine, he says, is “elegant, handsome, and cleverly designed," and “matches or exceeds the iMac in hardware design.”
The XPS One, priced from $1,499, boasts a 20-inch widescreen, wireless keyboard and mouse, Wi-Fi, and a built-in TV. But, Mossberg concedes, that isn’t enough to overthrow King iMac, which is cheaper and powered by a speedier operating system. Still, PC fans will be gratified by the stylish yet affordable desktop, the tech guru concludes. (More Dell Inc stories.)
