Mike Martz, the mind behind the Rams' "Greatest Show on Turf" early in this decade, will be fired as offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions following their game today at Green Bay, reports the Los Angeles Times. While expected to turn the Lions into the same high-powered attack crew as that in St. Louis, Martz sees his current squad at 19th in total offense.

Lions field general Jon Kitna earlier this week said firing Martz would be a mistake. "I hope he's back. That would be a hard thing for me to get over," said Kitna. Once he's let go, Martz' services would quickly be in demand, particularly by the San Francisco 49ers, who have a young developing offense led by often-inconsistent quarterback Alex Smith.
