The KTLA news helicopter in Los Angeles became a dramatic story of its own while it was being used to cover reports of a gunman in Hollywood. A news chopper from a rival station noticed smoke pouring out of the other helicopter's engine and notified the pilot, reports CBS. "5′s got trouble! I don’t know what’s wrong," he said. "Dude, he’s on fire!"

As the cockpit filled with smoke, the KTLA pilot made a safe emergency landing in a Hollywood parking lot that was captured on film. "You never know when your time is going to come," he said after exiting the helicopter uninjured. "And, thankfully, today was not mine." Fire officials believe the emergency was caused by a crack in the engine. (More Hollywood stories.)
