Fugitive in Gang Rape Case Caught in Texas

A fugitive convicted in the gang rape of a sixth-grade girl in Texas has been caught after a little less than two weeks on the lam, reports the Houston Chronicle. It may have been Eric McGowen's last taste of freedom: The 20-year-old skipped out during a break in court last month before his guilty verdict and 99-year sentence were read.

Police are making sure to point out that they caught McGowen in an apartment while he was sitting on the toilet. Relatives may face charges for harboring a fugitive, notes ABC affiliate KTRK-TV. McGowen was one of 20 males charged in the brutal sexual assaults, which were videotaped via cell phone by the assailants. He is the only one to go to trial so far; others have either pleaded guilty or still have cases pending. (More Eric McGowen stories.)
