When police showed up at David Charles Baker's home yesterday, he was brandishing a shotgun and walking amid what looked like tripwires that were hooked up to propane and gas tanks on his front lawn, while shouting what officers describe as "nonsensical" things, the Salt Lake City Tribune reports. Thus began a four-hour standoff, during which about 40 homes were evacuated. Baker proceeded to barricade himself inside his house. When he finally surrendered, he did so in style: wearing a black-sequined and orange fur-trimmed mini-dress.
The incident began when Baker—who has a habit of posting insane, rambling rants on YouTube in which he claims to talk to God—left a package on a friend's driveway, claiming it could burn down his house. Police went to Baker's home to talk about it, and the standoff ensued. Police say Baker has had explosives training, but the box turned out to be filled with "adult material." Baker had planted similar fake explosives at several of his neighbors' homes as well. Neighbors have often reported Baker's bizarre behavior to police, which, Fox 13 reports, has landed him on "local and federal watch lists." (More weird crimes stories.)
