A bus that was swerving to avoid a pedestrian jumped the curb and ran into a Long Island home last night, killing a 6-year-old boy who was sleeping inside the house. Police say the driver honked three times, but the pedestrian, who was crossing against the light, didn't get out of his way. The bus also hit the pedestrian, who was in critical condition last night; 11 bus passengers and the 7-year-old brother of the victim were also injured, the New York Post reports.
“I heard a big boom and I thought it was the end of the world," says another person who lives in the house. "Some of us tried to save the baby," adds another resident. But he died later at a hospital. A family friend says his brother's injuries looked minor. (More bus accident stories.)
