James Holmes' much-publicized pre-trial hearing series was dramatic to the last. As the judge brought down the gavel to close the proceedings today, the father of one of the victims shouted, "Rot in hell, Holmes!" ABC 7 reports. After a few minutes, the court reconvened to address the incident. The shouter was one Steve Hernandez, father of Rebecca Wingo, who died in the massacre.
"I am terribly sorry for your loss. I can only begin to imagine the emotions that are raging," the judge said, but he admonished that a level of decorum was required in court. "Can I count on you from now on to make no more outbursts?" Hernandez promised that he could, saying he "meant no disrespect to you or the courts." The outburst came after the judge agreed to push back Holmes' arraignment until March 12, after the defense said it wasn't ready to enter a plea. (More James Holmes stories.)
