Continuing her campaign against gun violence, Gabrielle Giffords will testify today at a Senate hearing on the issue. The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing—the first on gun violence in 14 months—was already expected to be a dramatic showdown, the Washington Post reports. Giffords is not expected to take questions; husband Mark Kelly will testify after her, as will the NRA's Wayne LaPierre.
Adding to the drama: Two Republican senators want to bring unloaded guns to the hearing, Politico reports, but Lindsey Graham and Ted Cruz are running into obstacles with law enforcement. They wrote to committee chair Patrick Leahy to express their disappointment, explaining that their goal is "to educate fellow senators and members of the public how and why firearms are used by millions of law-abiding Americans for self-defense, hunting, and sporting purposes" and "to shatter the mistaken belief that guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens are a danger to society."
