How will humans evolve over the next 20,000, 60,000 years and 100,000 years? An artist has teamed up with a computational geneticist to research and illustrate one possible timeline, in which our species basically genetically engineers itself into looking like really creepy anime characters, Forbes reports. "This human face will be heavily biased towards features that humans find fundamentally appealing: strong, regal lines, straight nose, intense eyes, and placement of facial features that adhere to the golden ratio and left/right perfect symmetry," says Dr. Alan Kwan, who has a PhD in computational genomics.
Kwan says other features may have more practical motivations, such as more skin pigmentation and "unnervingly large" eyes to deal with harsher UV rays and lower sunlight on other planets, and lower brow bones to deal with lower gravity. Artist Nickolay Lamm has illustrated Kwan's ideas and the results are, well, pretty creepy. Click through to MyVoucherCodes.co.uk to see more of his illustrations. (More evolution stories.)
