White Deaths Outnumbered White Births Last Year

It was expected to become an official stat by the end of this decade: a year in which the number of deaths of non-Hispanic whites was greater than the number of births in the group. But Census Bureau estimates out today reveal that things are running ahead of schedule. Between July 2011 and July 2012, there were 12,400 more such deaths than there were births; it's the first time that's ever been the case. The previous year saw 29,600 more births. The white population actually ended up growing 0.1% for the year though, due to immigration, and stands at 64%. White people make up 80% of all deaths in the US, reports USA Today.
