Tragedy at an Oklahoma Fourth of July parade, where an 8-year-old boy either fell or jumped from a parade float and was fatally run over. Making the story much worse: The boy's father was driving the flat-bed trailer, which was being used as a float for a karate group, a police spokesperson tells NBC News. A nurse driving behind the float tried to administer CPR, but the boy was pronounced dead at the hospital. There were about 20 children on the float for the annual Edmond parade.
Another parade tragedy struck in Bangor, Maine, where a man was killed when the tractor he was driving was struck from behind by an old fire truck. The parade had been rerouted, because police were dealing with a man shooting out of a window nearby, the AP reports. (More Fourth of July stories.)
