Ana Ivanovic had never taken a set off Venus Williams until she took down the American today in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open 7-6 (3), 6-4. Venus’ sister Serena, was also bounced from the tournament in the quarters by a Serbian, Jelena Jankovic. The fourth-seeded Ivanovic will face Daniela Hantuchova in the semifinals, reports the AP.

Hantuchova defeated Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 6-1 in another quarterfinal match; it is the deepest the No. 9-seeded Hantuchova has ever advanced in a Grand Slam tournament. “I kept believing I could do it, and here I am,” the Slovakian said. In the other semifinal match Maria Sharapova will face Jankovic. Sharapova ended top-seeded Justine Henin’s 32-match winning streak in the quarterfinals. (More Australian Open stories.)
