Trick-or-Treater Killed in 'Horrible Accident'

An awful story out of Texas: A 5-year-old girl died after being hit by a minivan while trick-or-treating in Houston last night. Police say she was with family members and was just ahead of her mother when she apparently strayed into the road around 8pm, entering the minivan's path. Her Halloween candy was "strewn across the roadway," the Chronicle reports. The male driver, who is in his 70s, stayed at the scene; charges aren't expected to be filed, KTRK reports, adding that police are calling it "a horrible accident." (More fatal accident stories.)
