The long-running investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann appears to be heating up again. In October, Portuguese police officially reopened their investigation into the British 3-year-old's 2007 disappearance. Now, they've handed over to British police secret files covering burglaries near the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz, where Madeleine went missing, the Daily Express reports. Some of those burglaries included child abuse, the paper notes.

"Burglars go anywhere and everywhere in Luz and normally break in during the middle of the night when you’re asleep," says a local businesswoman. "It’s been going on for years, well before Madeleine disappeared. Police here are aware of the problem, but the public" isn't. Three suspects are reportedly under investigation by Scotland Yard. Portuguese media say they're all former workers at the Ocean Club resort, the Daily Mail notes. Click for more on the case. (More Madeleine McCann stories.)
