Definition of a lucky kid: He falls from a three-story window but gets saved by two people who just happened to be walking by. Definition of a luckier kid: His saviors also happened to be carrying the box spring for a mattress. It happened in Burbank, California, when Konrad Lightner and his wife, Jennifer, were in the midst of moving out of their apartment, reports MyBurbank. As they were schlepping their stuff outside, they saw the 3-year-old throwing toys from a window in their building, issued futile warnings, then placed the box spring on the ground under the window.
Sure enough, the kid eventually fell out, got snared briefly in a cable or telephone line, and continued down ... straight into Konrad's waiting arms. He was able to catch the toddler and plunk him down safely on the box spring in one quick motion, he tells KABC in Los Angeles. "It was very surreal afterward," adds his wife. "We were just moving the rest of day and every once in a while we'd look at each other and just be like, 'That happened. That was real.'" The 3-year-old got checked out at a local hospital and is fine, much to the relief of his grateful parents. (More uplifting news stories.)
