Two weeks ago, Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder shocked the NFL by hiring Jim Zorn as offensive coordinator before he had hired a head coach. Today, Snyder topped that by making Zorn his head coach, reports the Washington Post. "I've always dreamed of being a head coach with a franchise rich in tradition like the Redskins," Zorn, 54, said.
Zorn, who has never been an offensive coordinator or head coach in the NFL, replaces Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs, who retired Jan. 8. The announcement comes days after Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo asked off the Redskins list. Last season, Zorn was the Seattle Seahawks quarterback coach. Former Giants coach Jim Fassel was thought to be the leading candidate after Spagnuolo backed away. (More NFL stories.)
