Sports / Atlantic 10 Conference Duncan's Perfection Lifts Xavier Over URI No. 10 Musketeers remain in command of Atlantic 10 standings By Mike Buss, Newser Staff Posted Feb 18, 2008 10:59 PM CST Copied Xavier's Stanley Burrell looks to get past Rhode Island's Parfait Bitee during college basketball action on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 in Kingston, R.I. Xavier won 81-77. (AP Photo/Joe Giblin) (Associated Press) Xavier won its fifth straight on the road and 14th out of 15 overall, 81-77 at Rhode Island tonight. Josh Duncan led the 10th-ranked Musketeers with 23 points and hit all eight of his shots from the field as Xavier withstood a Rams rally in the second half, reports the AP. The loss ended Rhode Island's 11-game home winning streak. The Musketeers avenged their loss to URI in the Atlantic 10 tournament semis last year. Parfait Bitee scored 25 points and Will Daniels had 23 for the Rams (20-6), who will likely be on the bubble for the NCAA tournament in March. Xavier, meanwhile, doesn't have those concerns, as it cruised to a 10-1 mark in conference play so far. (More Atlantic 10 Conference stories.) Report an error
