Marriage Proposal Ends Smashingly
A crane crashed into the roof of a house after a man wanted to be lifted in front of his girlfriend's bedroom window to propose, in IJsselstein, Saturday Dec. 13, 2014.   (AP Photo/AS Media)

Usually if a girl looks out her bedroom window first thing in the morning and sees a guy on a crane peering in, her instinct would be to run and call the cops. In the case of a Dutchman's proposal gone quite wrong, just running would do it: It seems that the unlucky Romeo decided to swoop down upon his beloved's bedroom window in Ijsselstein early yesterday, sing her a song, and pop the question, reports the BBC. His plans went a little awry when the crane he was on toppled, bashed a huge hole in the neighbors' roof, and required the evacuation of six apartments. Complicating matters, notes the AP, was the rescue attempt, in which a larger crane attempted to right the original, only to have it fall again, bashing more holes. Leaky roofs aside, the story has a happy ending: Romeo was uninjured, she said yes, and the happy couple is reportedly off in Paris celebrating. (More crane accident stories.)
