Adnan Syed, the Maryland man whose murder conviction as a teenager made headlines thanks to the popularity of the Serial podcast, will get an appeal. Syed was convicted of murdering ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee in 1999, and the podcast told his story—including an interview with Asia McClain, a former classmate of Syed who says she can provide him with an alibi. She did not testify at his trial, and has said she would be willing to testify if subpoenaed; after her story was told on the podcast, Syed's lawyers filed a supplement to their original appeal asking that they be allowed to call her to testify. Now a Maryland court has agreed to allow the case's appeal, overturning a Baltimore circuit court's decision last month, the Washington Post reports. (More appeal stories.)
