Not even Ithaca's tourism office thinks you should visit Ithaca. Struggling through a vicious winter in New York state, workers at the office started offering unusual advice on Sunday night, the Miami Herald reports. "That's it. We surrender," says the office's website. "Due to this ridiculously stupid winter, Ithaca invites you to visit the Florida Keys this week. Please come back when things thaw out. Really, it's for the birds here now." The site's name, VisitIthaca.com, is crossed out amid pictures of the sunny Keys.
If you're desperate to get the Ithaca experience, you can—but only by clicking a link that says: "Still want to Visit Ithaca? Are you sure?" A county official explains the situation to the Herald: "It's gone beyond sub-freezing temperatures. Now it's sub-zero temperatures," he says. The staff decided they'd rather be in Florida, and "honestly, this is a way to stay engaged with our customers in a way that's kind of fun and a little unexpected," he adds. "God forbid there's ever honesty in advertising." (More Ithaca, NY stories.)
