If you're looking to attract a mate and your name happens to be Scarlett or Alessandro, you're already in good shape. A new survey—carried out by BabyNameWizard.com—finds that those are the sexiest names for females and males, respectively. The rest of the top 10 for the ladies: Nicolette, Natalia, Anaïs, Paulina, Alessandra, Chanel, Soraya, Adrianna, and Giuliana. And for the guys: Lorenzo, Rhett, Romeo, Mateo, Dimitri, Dane, Marcelo, Dante, and Rémy. If you're bummed your name did not make either list, it might still have some sexy characteristics: The survey found that Latin and French names scored particularly well, as did male names ending in "o" and female names ending in "a." And names featuring double letters scored better than their single-letter counterparts (Adriana vs. Adrianna), the website's founder tells LiveScience.
On the other end of the spectrum, the least sexy names for girls: Gertrude, Bertha, Agnes, Ethel, and Mildred. (Notice a pattern? These names, considered as a group, peaked in popularity in the 1890s; the founder notes that their abundance of consonants also makes them feel heavy.) And for boys: Bob, Ernest, Norman, Dick, and Howard. But, as BabyNameWizard points out, "sexiness isn't a universal positive in a name," so if you'd rather be a politician than a porn star, perhaps you're glad your name is Bob. One caveat to the survey: Though tens of thousands of website visitors submitted the ratings over five years, the majority of respondents were likely female, so if more males were surveyed, the results could change.
