A three-alarm fire so intense that it required more than 150 Chicago firefighters broke out last night, and left smoldering in the rubble of the partially collapsed building was what UPI calls "one of the department's closest allies—a fire extinguisher factory." A HazMat response was also called over the materials in fire extinguishers, but ultimately canceled early today. Crews apparently had trouble getting sufficient water on the flames, notes NBC Chicago. "We had one engine feed another engine to another engine until we got water on the fire," a deputy fire commissioner said. Per DNAInfo, "flames lit up the night sky," but were put out by midnight. Cause is still under investigation. (More fire extinguisher stories.)
