Daniel Alfredsson, who had just one goal in his past nine games, scored twice and added an assist today as the Ottawa Senators beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4, reports the Associated Press. Martin Gerber had 25 saves for the Senators, who snapped a 3-game losing streak. The Penguins have now lost six of their last eight. In other NHL action:

  • Phil Kessel scored the only goal of a shootout to lift the Boston Bruins past the Atlanta Thrashers, 3-2. Boston is 6-0-1 in its last eight games.
  • Martin Biron had 33 saves and Jeff Carter scored a goal and had an assist to lead the Philadelphia Flyers past the New York Islanders, 4-1.
