The saga of the Django Unchained actress who said she was handcuffed for kissing her white boyfriend is coming to an end. The brouhaha started in September, when officers confronted Daniele Watts and Brian James Lucas because someone called to complain that they were having sex in a parked car in LA. Watts accused officers of racism and said they must have assumed the biracial couple was a prostitute and her client; cops said she was lying, and ultimately Watts and Lucas were charged with lewd conduct. They both ended up pleading no contest yesterday to "disturbing the peace with loudness" in exchange for those lewd conduct charges being dropped, the Guardian reports.
As part of the plea deal, they must apologize in writing to the officers Watts accused of racial profiling, as well as the occupants of the building near where the incident occurred. They also got 40 hours of community service. Watts' attorney says she will, indeed, apologize. NBC News notes that she originally swore she never would, but her attorney now tells the AP that Watts "wishes she hadn't said some of the things she said" to police. However, he adds, she is not admitting that she and Lucas actually engaged in lewd conduct (she initially said they were just kissing).
