Eleven people in Florida are alive today thanks in part to their elderly neighbor's difficulty sleeping. Carmen Rodriguez, 84, found herself awake about 2am when she smelled smoke, went outside to investigate, and saw flames consuming her apartment building in Jacksonville, reports the Florida Times-Union. She then went banging on doors and waking her neighbors, shouting, “Get out, get out, it’s fire!” Everybody was safely out by the time firefighters arrived, and it's a good thing: Four units were destroyed, and the other four were seriously damaged by either smoke or fire.
