A suicide bomber struck at an Iraqi market today, but seldom have such attacks been so deadly: Reuters puts the death toll at more than 100 and reports that the Islamic State claimed responsibility, boasting that the vehicle used in the blast had 3 tons of explosives. The explosion brought down multiple buildings in the town of Khan Bani Saad, northeast of Baghdad, which AFP notes is predominately Shiite. Victims had packed the market to gather food in preparation for the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. "Some people were using vegetable boxes to collect children's body parts," says a police major. (More ISIS stories.)
