Billy Beane—Oakland A's executive and the inspiration behind the film Moneyball—is one of the San Francisco area's worst water wasters, the San Jose Mercury News reports. According to a partial list of customers made public by the East Bay Municipal Utility District Thursday, Beane uses 5,996 gallons of water every day. That's nearly 24 times the average household water usage during California's serious drought.

Beane, who has been fined for his high water usage, tells the Mercury News he tried to save water but his home has a large yard. Indeed, a photo of Beane's $4.8 million property published on Mother Jones shows a pool and lots of green grass along the drive up to the house. Beane is famous for winning baseball games on a small budget, so let's hope he can figure out how to moneyball his water usage soon. (More Moneyball stories.)
