Eating disorders: not really a laughing matter, unless, apparently, you're a View panelist. During Thursday's show, the co-hosts discussed Donald Trump's recent weight loss (he says he lost 15 pounds because running for president is just too exciting and he never wants to eat) and the talk somehow turned to eating disorders, Us reports. "We were just discussing whether it's better to become bulimic or anorexic backstage. What do you girls think?" said Joy Behar. "Oh, definitely bullimic!" said a laughing Michelle Collins. "You get to enjoy the meal ... we have two bulimics here, they agree."
Candace Cameron Bure, who has been open about dealing with an eating disorder in her own life, jumped in. "Please know that we are—while this is in jest—[I'm] someone that has dealt with eating disorders, so I don't want to make light of anyone that has it, but ... we were talking about it." A slightly abashed Collins said, "No, it's a disease and it's actually very scary," while Behar added, "We were kidding." After a commercial break, Whoopi Goldberg chimed in: "As Candace pointed out, she knows what this is like. We know. We understand. And, of course, we never want to offend anybody." Added Bure, "I think I can joke about it because I've been there." (It's not their first ill-advised joke.)
