A US professor who was suspended after wearing a headscarf—and saying Muslims and Christians "worship the same God"—is out of a job. Larycia Hawkins, a tenured associate political science professor at Wheaton College in Illinois, parted ways with the evangelical Christian college on Saturday night, NPR reports. They "found a mutual place of resolution and reconciliation" and "reached a confidential agreement under which they will part ways," Hawkins and the school say in a joint statement. She was facing possible termination in a school hearing next week. But the Faculty Council is seeking her reinstatement amid anger and confusion over the move, the Chicago Tribune reports. "Many of us are wondering why the ... reconciliation with Dr. Hawkins did not include her remaining on our faculty," says New Testament professor Gary Burge. (More evangelicals stories.)
