The frontman of Darkthrone, a Norwegian "black metal" band, has accidentally gotten himself elected to his local town council, Pitchfork reports. As Glyve "Fenriz" Nagell explained to Clrvynt last week, "basically, they called and asked if I wanted to be on the list [of backup representatives]. I said yeah, thinking I would be like 18th on the list and I wouldn’t really have to do anything." He then took a campaign photo of himself holding his cat, Peanut Butter, with the message, "Please don't vote for me." People did not listen.

Nagell was indeed elected to be a backup representative in Kolbotn, an Oslo suburb, a role that lasts four years and, he complains, doesn't pay much. "I'm not too pleased about it," he says. "It's boring." As for how exactly he got added to the list of candidates in the first place, he says, per FACT, "They just need a list to be able to … well, it’s hard to talk local politics in another language." He says he will be required to step in if another council member is sick or otherwise unavailable. Meanwhile, Darkthrone has its 17th studio album coming out Oct. 14. (Minnesota recently got a mayor in Duke the dog.)
