Huma Abedin dumped husband Anthony Weiner last month amid allegations that he couldn't stop his sexting ways. Those allegations have just gotten worse: The Daily Mail reports in painful, intricate detail that Weiner carried on a months-long relationship via text and Skype with a 15-year-old girl beginning in January of this year. The messages were explicit, and the unidentified girl and her father tell the newspaper that the 52-year-old knew she was underage as he encouraged her to indulge in rape fantasies and the like. While the Daily Mail may not be the most reliable of sources, Weiner responded with a statement that is a little vague but acknowledges something was going on.
"I have repeatedly demonstrated terrible judgement about the people I have communicated with online and the things I have sent," he writes. "I am filled with regret and heartbroken for those I have hurt. While I have provided the Daily Mail with information showing that I have likely been the subject of a hoax, I have no one to blame but me for putting myself in this position. I am sorry." As the Daily News notes, Weiner does not deny communicating with the girl. The Daily Mail says the girl eventually told her father and a teacher, after which Weiner pressured her to tell them that she lied and that they were "just friends." (More Anthony Weiner stories.)
