He didn't want to destroy it; he said he wanted to pry it out and sell it. But either way, a guy in construction worker getup smashed Donald Trump's star to bits on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Wednesday morning—and now the LAPD is on the hunt, TMZ reports. The man showed up bright and early (around 5:45am), with a pickax and sledgehammer in hand and decked out in a bright-orange reflective construction vest, and went to work as a few bystanders gawked, per Deadline, which has video of the decimation. The man told Deadline his name was Jamie Otis and that he wanted to auction the star—which Trump received in 2007 for The Apprentice—to raise money for Trump's sexual misconduct accusers; "Otis" took off before the police got there around 6:15am. (Better news for Trump in Florida.)
