Val Kilmer took Michael Douglas to task for saying the actor had oral cancer. "I love Michael Douglas but he is misinformed," was how Kilmer put it six months ago. It appears that wasn't so. In a Wednesday Reddit Ask Me Anything chat that's now grabbing headlines, Kilmer was asked point-blank about the mess with Douglas: "A while ago, Michael Douglas claimed you had terminal cancer. What was the story behind that?" Here's his somewhat inscrutable answer, the upshot of which appears to be, yes, Kilmer had cancer, something he's never before admitted:
- "He was probably trying to help me cause press probably asked where I was these days, and I did have a healing of cancer, but my tongue is still swollen altho [sic] healing all the time. Because I don’t sound my normal self yet people think I may still be under the weather."
Today reports Kilmer is currently working, as he's touring in support of
Cinema Twain, a film version of his one-man play about Mark Twain called
Citizen Twain. As for other AMA highlights,
People reports Kilmer also called Tom Cruise a "sweet heart" in dismissing rumors of bad blood with him while on
Top Gun, and offered up a poor-Tom story: "I actually felt a little sorry for him cause we all had time to play and date the cute extras and zoom around San Diego in muscle cars, but Tom was always in some scene and never go to play with us..." (Kilmer has also
had some unusual things to say about Cate Blanchett.)
